Authorities comment on bringing of textbooks about contemporary history of Russia to Transnistrian region

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration and the Ministry of Education and Research described the bringing of 2,500 textbooks about the contemporary history of Russia to the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova as “an unfriendly gesture” by the Russian Federation. In these textbooks, the war in Ukraine is described as “operation to save from fascists”, while the annexation of Crimea – as territorial reintegration.

According to Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, the Transnistrian region is part of the Republic of Moldova. Russia’s activities in this region are unfriendly and a large part of them are illegal, including the Russian military presence there. The created situation represents defiance and an unfriendly gesture by the Russian Federation towards the country’s citizens. The authorities constantly exchange information with Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebrean. The circumstances in which the textbooks reached the region will be elucidated.

For his part, Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun said that this is one of the multiple unfriendly gestures made by Russia towards the Republic of Moldova in the recent past. The Ministry of Education and Research condemns the promotion of false narratives in the Republic of Moldova, contrary to the national interests and the truth. The Ministry presumes that the textbooks were transmitted through diplomatic mail.
