The National Citizenship Authority (NCA) of Romania ordered to eliminate the obligation for a part of the statements needed for obtaining or regaining Romanian nationality to be compiled in authentic form. These statements will be included in the group of standard applications for Romanian nationality. The measure will be applied as from August 16 this year and is aimed at optimizing the activity of registering applications for Romanian nationality, IPN reports, quoting a press release of NCA.

Specifically, as from Augut1 6, in the case of applications for Romanian nationality formulated in accordance with Articles 81, 10 or 11 of Law No. 21/1991, the own responsibility statement showing that the person didn’t and doesn’t take and support actions against the law and national security will not need to be legalized in authentic form at public notaries, diplomatic missions or consular offices.

The same refers to the own responsibility statement showing that the person wants to regain Romanian nationality by keeping the domicile abroad or by registering the domicile in Romania, the own responsibility statement showing if the person filed another application to regain Romanian nationality or not and also the own responsibility statement of the parent or parents of minors showing that they didn’t ask the responsible authorities to transcribe the minor’s birth certificate in the case of applications to regain Romanian nationality formulated in accordance with Articles 9, par. 5 and 6, 10, par. 5 or 11, par. 2 of Law No. 21/1991 (for minors).

All the given statements will be included in the application forms for Romanian nationality that are available on the institution’s website in the form of own responsibility statements that will be given and signed by applicants before functionaries of NCA or consular functionaries of diplomatic missions or consular offices.

If, after August 16, the applicants present such statements in authentic form, these will be taken into account and will be included in the nationality file. The obligation of the authentic form is eliminated only in the case of the aforementioned statements, not yet of other statements needed when submitting the nationality file.
