Austrian Foreign Minister says he will “take home” issue of visa regime liberalization for Moldovans

The Austrian Federal Minister for European and International Affairs Michael Spindelegger said he will “take home” the issue of the liberalization of the visa regime for Moldovan travelers. He made the statement during a news conference in Chisinau on April 9, after he had a meeting with Moldovan Foreign Minister Iurie Leanca, Info-Prim Neo reports. “We want the visa regime for the Moldovans to be liberalized as soon as possible. For this, we need a first step. This wish of the Moldovan people will be expressed by Iurie Leanca in Luxemburg on June 15, when the talks on the liberalization of the visa regime between Moldova and the EU are opened,” Michael Spindelegger said. The Moldovan minister said that the visa regime liberalization process is complicated and the fulfillment of the technical conditions imposed by the European Commission should be a first step in this direction. He spoke about the support provided by the Austrian Government in this respect, saying the signing of an agreement to ensure the social protection of the Moldovans working in Austria will strengthen the friendship relations between the two countries. The two ministers stressed the necessity of cooperating in the economic and commercial fields. Michael Spindelegger said Austria wants the number of Austrian investors in Moldova to increase. After the meeting, Iurie Leanca and Michael Spindelegger were to visit the Children's Town in Parata village of Dubasari district.
