Austria donates heaters to social institutions in Dubasari amid gas shortage

Austrian authorities will donate over €100,000 worth of large capacity heaters, electricity generators, diesel fuel, blankets and other goods to schools, hospitals, and kindergartens in eight communities in Dubasari district, one of the worst affected by the disruption of gas supplies, Info-Prim Neo learned from the Civil Protection Service. In a press release, the delegation of the European Commission in Moldova said the donation comes following the activation of the European Union's Civil Protection Mechanism, which was triggered at the request of the Moldovan authorities on Friday, January 9. The Moldovan authorities requested assistance from the Mechanism to help its population deal with power and heating shortages caused as a result of the dispute between Russia and Ukraine over the gas transit. Even if it was reported that Russia resumed supplies on Tuesday morning, it is expected that the pumped gas will reach consumers no earlier than in 24 hours, and this leaves 16 locations in different parts of Moldova still without gas.
