Aureliu Ciocoi: Number of children infected with COVID-19 increased alarmingly

There is an alarming situation as regards the infection of children with COVID-19. As many as 12,528 children became infected and 53% of them are aged between 11 and 17, acting Prime Minister Aureliu Ciocoi stated after the meeting of the Unified Command Center, being quoted by IPN.

Aureliu Ciocoi said he suspects the development is due to the British variant of COVID-19. “Before the British strain was detected in Moldova, the children practically didn’t contract COVID-19,” stated the official.

He noted the number of infected pregnant women is also high - 973.

By the current infection rate, Moldova ranks the 18th in Europe, while by the number of deaths due to COVID-19, it is the 16th.

So far, over 61,000 persons have been vaccinated in the Republic of Moldova, except for the Moldovans who are abroad.

The cases of COVID-19 in Moldova total over 240,000. Of the 3,600 infected patients who are now in the national hospitals, 316 are in a very serious state and 55 of them were put on a ventilator. More than 220,000 people recovered from COVID-19.
