Acting Prime Minister Aureliu Ciocoi assured that he will do his utmost for the Government of the Republic of Moldova to work properly and in the interests of the Moldovan citizens. The comment was posted on the Ministry of Foreign Affair and European Integration’s Facebook page and comes after President Maia Sandu appointed him as acting Premier, IPN reports.
Aureliu Ciocoi said that even if he is still self-isolating at home, after he contracted COVID-19, he accepted Maia Sandu’s proposal to fulfill the duties of Prime Minister.
According to him, the Republic of Moldova is going through a difficult period and is experiencing a number of crises simultaneously. He noted he understands the complexity of the situation and the need for the country to be governed efficiently, regardless of the political situation.
He added he will soon inform public opinion about the immediate actions that will be taken.
Aureliu Ciocoi was named acting Prime Minister after Ion Chicu and the ministers of health, economy and finance vacated their seats on December 31, 2020. A number of state secretaries also left. Some of the politicians and experts said this is a scorched earth tactic. The Moldovan legislation does not oblige the outgoing governments to fulfill their duties until the appointment of a new government.
