The Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) was warned about the incorrect reporting of donations, while the Party “Democracy at Home” was warned for not removing the shortcomings identified in the July 9 report on the election campaign funding. A decision to this effect was taken by the Central Election Commission after continuing the meeting started on July 17, IPN reports.
According to CEC president Dorin Cimil, after examining the financial reports of AUR, they determined that a private individual from the Republic of Moldova on June 14 and July 5 donated sums that exceeded the ceiling for donations of 22,800 lei. The representatives of AUR said it was a technical error as donations were made by two persons with the same name and presented relevant confirming documents.
The Commission ascertained the existence of a technical error due to the identical name of the donors and warned AUR about the incorrect reporting of donations.
In the same meeting, the CEC took note of the information presented by the other elections contenders in the reports on the funding of the election campaign prior to the snap parliamentary elections of July 11, 2021, which covered the period until July 9, and decided to transmit the list of donors to the State Tax Service for determining the origin of the money.
