Audit Office to more intensely cooperate with civil society
The Audit Office will cooperate more intensely with civil society so as to enhance the implementation of the recommendations formulated in its audit reports, the institution’s chairman Serafim Urecheanu said in a program on the public TV channel Radio Moldova, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
”In 2011 for example, there were audited 420 entities. The presented audit reports contained 1,223 recommendations, but only 45% of them were implemented,” said Urecheanu.
The rate of implementing the recommendations made by the supreme auditing authorities in some of the European countries is 80-100%. Among these countries is Sweden, which helps the Audit Office of Moldova to implement the good international auditing practices. “We intend to cooperate with the Public Policy Institute by signing a memorandum of understanding and with other civil society organizations, urging thus the people to monitor how public money is spent,“ said the Audit Office chairman.
Arcadie Barbarosie, executive director of the Public Policy Institute, said the Parliament, which founded the Audit Office, and the ministries and other governmental divisions should include institutionalized groups composed of 2-3 persons that will monitor the implementation of the Audit Office recommendations. “This way the involvement degree of the public authorities in implementing and supervising the implementation of the Audit Office recommendations will increase,” he stated.
On January 28, the Audit Office and the Public Policy Institute signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in implementing the project “Audit Office recommendations –instrument for optimizing the use of public money”. The sides are designing a plan of action for implementing this project. The general public will be informed every quarter.
