The Audit Office urged the national telecoms carrier SA Moldtelecom to optimize the costs. According to the audit report presented on April 15, the company’s revenues from fixed-line telephony decreased by 53 million lei, while from incoming international traffic – by 28 million lei. The declines are due to the non-modification of the policies on the adjustment of tariffs to costs and to the end-users’ orientation to other types of services, IPN reports.
The report shows that though the company planned to reduce the costs, this objective wasn’t achieved. In the examined period, between 2011 and 2012, the growth rate of the costs was higher than of the revenues by 2.8%. This means that the optimization of costs remains a necessity, said Violeta Andries, who presented the report of the Audit Office.
According to the report, irregularities were identified in the company’s financial accounts and the organization of the public procurement process. Not all the investments made in the development of services are efficient, while the recoupment term for some of the investments is groundlessly extended.
SA Moldtelecom director general Vitalie Iurcu said the company is the largest payer of taxes to the state budget, with annual transfers of 400 million lei. A differentiated accounting system was implemented last year. This enables to differentiate between different service provision modules at the company.
In 2011, Moldtelecom accounted for 36% of the revenues in the telecommunications sector.
