The Audiovisual Council won the case featuring NTV Moldova channel, which was earlier fined a total of 10,000 lei and received four public warnings. The penalties were imposed for presenting the security crisis in the region and the Russian invasion of Ukraine in the news bulletins of February 24-27, 2022 in a unilateral way, without sufficient documentation, by intertwining facts and opinions, IPN reports.
According to the Council, none of the news items presented by NTV Moldova during the four monitored days contained the position of the West, except for a short speech by the minister of defense of France, who said that no one wanted a war with Russia.
NTV Moldova also resorted to omissions in the audiovisual programs broadcast in the monitored period. The declaring of the state of emergency in Moldova wasn’t explained in the news digest. As Aneta Gonța, deputy head of the Audiovisual Council, said in the public meeting, if the public informed themselves only from the news items of this TV channel, the people were informed incompletely, in a distorted way and unilaterally. This fact didn’t contribute to the formation of a free opinion about what has happened in the neighboring country starting with February 24, 2022.
On June 12, 2023, the Râșcani Court of Chisinau ruled in favor of the Audiovisual Council over the March 2, 2022 decision concerning the limited liability company Exclusiv Media, which founded NTV Moldova channel.
