Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca ordered performing an assessment so as to see if attic-like apartments are still built on corbels. The building of such apartments was banned by the Ministry of Construction last May, Info-Prim Neo reports. Dorin Chirtoaca expressed his dissatisfaction with the esthetic aspect of the buildings in Chisinau. In the April 24 meeting of City Hall officials, he presented a series of pictures of attic-like apartments build on corbels, saying they look ‘like hell’. “This is a Moldovan invention. How are the attic-like apartments incorporated into these buildings? Have you seen something like this elsewhere? I newer saw. Please, present pictures of successful projects next week. Attic-like apartments should be built, but not like this,” stated the mayor. Deputy mayor Nistor Grozavu said that some of the companies obtained construction authorizations before this restriction was placed, but started to build only now. “If they erect balconies, the building will have a different exterior. Otherwise it looks strange,” he said. The program to build attic-like apartments was launched in 2010.
