Attendance at the kindergartens in Chisinau has almost halved during the winter holidays. According to the Chisinau General Division of Education, Youth and Sport, on December 30 attendance was of 54%. Of the over 38,000 children enrolled at kindergartens, only about 20,000 were attending.

Contacted by IPN, acting head of the Preschool Management Service Angela Monaci said poor attendance is typical for the period of the winter holydays as many parents are now on leave and do not take the children to kindergarten. In other families, the younger children are left in the care of their elder siblings, who are now on vacation.

The 157 kindergartens of Chisinau are attended by 38,148 children.
