Attempts to corrupt MPs represent pressure put on country, Vlad Filat and Marian Lupu

Pressure is exerted on Moldova, including by attempts to corrupt lawmakers of the government coalition. Attempts to destroy the parliamentary majority are made in order to prevent the country from making progress on the path to European integration, PLDM leader Vlad Filat and PDM leader Marian Lupu said in the program “Replica” on Prime TV channel, IPN reports.

Vlad Filat said he has confidence in his party colleagues and in the colleagues from the government coalition. “I’m confident that the state institutions will punish those to blame. We must understand that pressure can be exerted on a country not necessarily by tanks. The attempt made to destroy the parliamentary majority also represents pressure,” said the Liberal-Democratic leader.

Marian Lupu underlined that somebody wants to destroy the parliamentary majority in order to thwart Moldova’s European integration plans, but it’s not excluded that narrower economic interests are pursued. “A positive aspect is the fact that the attempt to corrupt MPs will be an additional motivation to focus more on corruption combating. Increased political support will be provided in the fight against this phenomenon,” he stated.

In the program, the two leaders of the government coalition referred also to the date when the parliamentary elections will be held, saying they will most probably take place on November 30. They argued that Moldova must enter 2015 with a formed and safe government so as to continue its European course and implement reforms and to submit an application for becoming an accession candidate of the EU in spring.

As to the situation in Gagauzia, Vlad Filat said there are representatives of groups of interests who want to solve personal problems. But the people do not have the same goals and attitudes and representatives of the central government now go to the southern districts more often to communicate with the people there.

Marian Lupu said the ordinary people in Gagauzia are similar to the rest of the people in Moldova. They have the same needs and concerns. “The authorities there are not all the same. Most of the deputies of the People’s Assembly have rational views. There are several persons in Gagauzia who promote ideas that are not within the legal norms. Those who will promote separatism will be punished according to the law,” he said.

Speaking about the liberalization of the visa regime, the two politicians said this is a benefit for all the people and the visa requirements are expected to be abolished by May 22.
