Moldovan athlete Ion Luchianov qualified for the final of the 3,000 m hurdles of the World Athletics Championship that is taking place in Russia’s Moscow. He ranked fifth in the first qualification group with the score of 8.19 seconds. This result, which is the best in the current season, enabled him to qualify for the August 15 final, alongside another 14 athletes.
It is for the second consecutive time that Ion Luchianov qualified for the 3,000 m hurdles final of a world championship. In 2011, he ranked eighth. He also competed in the same event in the finals of the Olympic Games of 2008 and 2012, where he ranked 12th and, respectively, 10th.
In the 2013 World Athletics Championship, Moldova is also represented by Olesea Cojuhari, who failed to qualify for the final of the 400 m race, and by marathon runners Sergiu Ciobanu and Roman Prodius, who will compete on August 17.
