ATA Carnets to be issued from July 1
The Chamber of Trade and Industry of Moldova will start to issue ATA Carnets on July 1, the head of the Chamber's Economy Department Sergiu Harea said, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
The ATA Carnet is an international customs document that allows the holder to temporarily import goods without payment of normally applicable duties and taxes, including value added taxes. The Carnet eliminates the need to purchase temporary import bonds. So long as the goods are re-exported within the allotted time frame, no duties or taxes are due.
Carnets apply to three broad categories of merchandise: commercial samples, professional equipment and goods for use at exhibitions and fairs. With the exception of perishable or consumable items, the product range is nearly limitless, the Chamber says in a communique.
Nicolae Gaibu, the head of the Expertise Division of the Chamber of Trade and Industry, said the ATA Carnets provide a number of advantages, including lower clearance costs, simplification of the customs procedures as a single document replaces the national customs declarations, utilization of a single document for a number of trips during up to one year, the possibility to visit several countries as part of one trip.
