At most 16 candidates to compete for mayoralty of Balti municipality

At most 16 candidates will contend for the post of mayor of the municipality of Balti in the November 5 election. October 6 was the last day for submissions and four candidates presented the required documents to the Balti District Electoral Council on that day. The Council has seven days to examine the files, the Council’s head Svetlana Colesnic has told IPN.

The last four aspirants are: Alexandr Petkov of the Our Party; Anastasia Svetlichnyi of the Alternative and Moldova Salvation Force; Mark Tkachuk of the Common Action - Civic Congress Party; Nicolai Grigorishin of the Party of Change.

Six candidates for mayor of Balti municipality have been registered so far:

1. Sergiu Burlacu, Liberal Democratic Party
2. Vladimir Rusu, Party of Action and Solidarity
3. Alexandru Gustoi, Party of Communists
4. Ion Straciuc, Party “We Build Europe at Home”
5. Maxim Moroșan, Party of Socialists
6. Aureliu Filipp, Party of Development and Consolidation of Moldova.

The Council is examining the documents presented by Sergiu Popovici, of the Coalition for Unity and Wellbeing, and the completed subscription lists provided by independent candidate Ion Ciobanu.

The files of Alexandr Nesterovschi, of the Revival Party, and Victoria Șapa, of the Chance Party, and the subscription lists of independent
candidates Marina Cravchenko and Arina Korshykova are being examined.

The election campaign for the candidates registered as contestants in the November 5 general local elections started on October 6. The contenders can now hold meetings with voters, while the local public authorities are obliged to ensure such meetings take place in equal conditions.
