At least 1.3m euros will be spent on renovation of assembly hall and offices of Parliament’s administration

Prime Minister Vlad Filat on October 10 visited the buildings of the Parliament and the Presidential Office. He discussed the development of the works and the costs incurred with representatives of the design and building companies, Info-Prim Neo reports. Vlad Filat asked that the costs be minimized, saying he will personally check how the money is spent. At the same time, he expressed dissatisfaction with the quality of certain works. Minister of Construction Marcel Raducan said the costs of preparing for the cold season have been halved from 80 million lei to 40 million lei. The buildings will be renovated according to the existent projects. Certain modifications will be made as regards the costs of the building materials used for the offices of the MPs and other functionaries. Under a project, the renovation of the Parliament’s assembly hall and offices of the speaker and deputy speakers will cost an estimated 1.3 million euros. Four projects have been proposed for refurbishing the assembly hall of the Parliament. One of them belongs to Italian designers. They suggest renovating the offices in the style of theater halls. This project costs about 5 million euros. Fountains will be built in front of the two buildings. Vlad Filat compared the iron fence that is to be constructed around the Presidential Office with the Berlin wall that will symbolically separate the head of state from the ordinary people. He asked the design companies to exclude the fence or to make it as small as possible. It is planned that the reconstruction of the Presidential Office will be completed by January 2010, while of the Parliament’s building by November.
