At least 100 children with disabilities from five districts of Moldova will benefit from assistance at home within a project that supports the decentralization of social services. The project is implemented by Keystone Association Moldova and is financed by the European Union, Info-Prim Neo reports. During the project launch, Keystone Association Moldova executive director Ludmila Malcoci said the project aims to develop the social service “Mobile Team” in five districts: Sangerei, Falesti, Ungheni, Anenii Noi, and Dubasari. The service will provide assistance at home to disabled children and their families, including psychological counseling, medical and rehabilitation services, and special training for developing abilities for an independent life in community. Ludmila Malcoci also said that at least 100 children with disabilities and their families will improve the quality of their lives. The family members will enjoy more autonomy and will be able to work. Another expected result is that these children will not be institutionalized. They will remain in the family and will benefit from appropriate care. There were planned a number of measures aimed at changing the society’s attitude towards disabled persons and at promoting their rights. The Head of the EU Delegation Dirk Schuebel said the €273,000 project will last for 24 months. €32,000 will be provided by Soros Foundation Moldova. The ambassador said the project will have a major impact and will contribute to the decentralization of the social services by developing the public-private partnership. Deputy Minister of Labor, Social Protection and Family Sergiu Sainciuc said in Moldova there are about 180,000 persons with disabilities and this project will ensure equal rights for everyone.
