Assumption of the Virgin Church in Capriana sanctified after reconstruction

The church “Assumption of the Virgin” was sanctified after renovation on Capriana Monastery’s Day on August 28. The event marked the finalisation of reconstruction works on the entire monastic complex. President of Moldova Vladimir Voronin, who attended the festivity, underlined the significance of restoring the monastic complex Capriana, which is a unique cultural and historical monument, pillar of the Christian-Orthodox traditions of the country. Vladimir Voronin said that the initiative to renovate the monastic complex put forward in January 2003 was broadly supported by the population of the country. Thousands of people contributed money to saving Capriana Monastery. Their names had been written in a book titled “You Exist as Long as You Give” that was printed by Teleradio-Moldova Company. The head of state stressed the role of the radio- and TV-marathons organised by Teleradio-Moldova while collecting resources for reconstructing the monastery. The President announced he signed a decree to award high state distinctions to a group of builders, architects, scientists, public functionaries and another people for their meritorious contribution to restoring the monastic complex Capriana. Among them are the chairman of the Board that supervised the restoration of the monastic complex Capriana, Pantelei Tiltu, who was awarded the Order of the Republic, and the director general of the Agency for Construction and Territorial Development Vladimir Baldovici, who was honoured with the Order of Honour.
