Association “Patria mea e Moldova” urges to boycott elections of 2018

Members of the Association “Patria mea e Moldova” (“My homeland is Moldova”) are convinced that the initiative to change the electoral system is nothing but a farce of the PDM-PSRM duo and call on the citizens to boycott the parliamentary elections of 2018.

Artiom Guriev, a member of the Association “Patria mea e Moldova”, in a news conference at IPN said the collection of signatures by the Democratic Party for the uninominal voting system was just a scenario as the final goal of Vladimir Plahotniuc is to obtain the introduction of the mixed electoral system, on which President Igor Dodon also started to insist. “The beneficiaries of this farce are Igor Dodon, who gets additional political benefits, and the leader of the Democrats Vladimir Plahotniuc, who would maintain power after the 2018 legislative elections,” stated Artiom Guriev.

Member Nelli Bartas noted that political cruising became the visiting card of Moldova’s Parliament. “The MPs elected by the people defect shamelessly from one party to another with the aim of enriching themselves and promote other ideas than those with which they entered Parliament. The result is evident: the stolen US$ 1 billion, the paralyzed power, etc.” said Nelli Bartas.

Activist Leonid Cucu said representatives of the parties that initiated the electoral system change admit that political goals are pursued. Ex-Democratic MP Andrei Popov said the change in the electoral system is the most important joker in the emergency plans of the PDM, which is a party of districts and its power consists in 20 Democratic district heads and about 500 Democratic mayors all over the country. Also, Socialist MP Vladimir Turcan said the switchover to the mixed-member electoral system is the direct way to corruption in politics and to the rerun of the Gagauz scenario of 2013-2014, when all the independent deputies of the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia became ardent Democrats.

Leonid Cucu referred also to the possibility of withdrawing the MPs who do not fulfill their duties, which was intensely disseminated by the Democrats during the campaign to collect signatures in favor of the electoral system change. He reminded that when the Democrats’ bill was merged with the Socialists’ bill, this provision was removed. According to the activist, in the current conditions in the Republic of Moldova, the change in the electoral system actually envisions the switchover to a legislative body that would consists of representatives of two parties: PSRM and PDM.

The members of “Patria mea e Moldova” urged that society should thwart the plans of the PDM-PSRM duo and should boycott the future parliamentary elections.
