Association of Young Bessarabians launches “Guide a New Student” campaign

The Iasi-based Association of Young Bessarabians summed up the results of the admission campaign “Student in Romania” that was carried out in June-August and announced a new campaign themed “Guide a New Student” to help the young people admitted to Romanian education institutions to integrate, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Association's head Olga Bondari told a news conference on September 14 that the applicants this year chose mainly the cities Iasi, Bucharest and Cluj as well as Craiova and Galati. The most popular faculties included economic sciences, engineering, medicine and sociopolitical sciences. The exact sciences and theology were not very popular. “During the admission session, volunteers of the Association of Young Bessarabians provided assistance to young people in front of the Romanian consulates in Moldova, answering their questions,” Olga Bondari said. The Association's representatives criticized the organization of the admission session to Romanian education establishments. “Even if the consulates in Balti and Cahul were opened, the announcements about the admission session were published with delay,” Olga Bondari said. The campaign “Guide a New Student” is aimed at supporting the young people who were admitted to Romanian high schools and universities, after they leave Moldova. Natalia Pagu, coordinator with the Association's Human Resources Department, said the young Moldovans in Romania face mainly accommodation problems and problems related to the obtaining of the permit of stay. Also, those who were accepted to study without tuition fees and without scholarship must pay a tax on documents of €120. Another member of the Association, Dan Caranfil said this year the students preferred the education institutions of Iasi and other towns that are closer to the Moldovan border. “The Bessarabian students now say they will return to Moldova after they complete the studies in Romania. In 2009, most of them said they will not go back,” he stated. This year, the Government of Romanian provided 5,000 places in Romanian high schools and universities for Moldovan young people.
