Association of Veterans of Interior Ministry benefitted from largest amounts under 2% mechanism

The nongovernmental and religious organizations of Moldova in 2017 received 2.821 million lei through the mechanism that offers private individuals the possibility of transferring 2% of the income tax paid to the state to an NGO or a religious organization.

In a response to an inquiry made by IPN, the State Tax Service said the taxpayers transferred the largest sum to the Public Association of Veterans and Pensioners of the Ministry of the Interior – 1.374 million lei.

The new claimants for such transfers submit applicants between September 1 and 30 of each year. For 2018, 511 public associations, foundations and private institutions and 83 religious organizations were registered by the Ministry of Justice as beneficiaries of the 2% Law. Last September, such applications were filed by 106 associations and 12 religious organizations. The applications of seven claimants were rejected, the Ministry of Justice said in a response to IPN. The list of public associations and religious organizations is available at the Ministry’s website.

Under the Law on Public Associations, or the so-called 2% Law, private individuals can transfer 2% of the income tax paid to the state to a nongovernmental or a religious organization.
