Association of Historians proposes both history of Romanians and universal history
The Association of Historians of Moldova suggests that two separate
courses should be studied in preuniversity education institutions – the
History of Romanians, and Universal History. The Association’s chairman
Gheorghe Negru has told Info-Prim Neo that this and other proposals were
put forward in a meeting with representatives of the Ministry of
Education, centering on the history course.
“We discussed and presented the position and proposals of the
Association of Historians of Moldova. The opinions stated were
different. Some proposed studying the Integrated History course in
continuation, but we consider that the history of Romanians should be
studied separately. However, we are yet to hold more discussions,” said
Gheorghe Negru.
According to him, when the Integrated History course was introduced in
2006, not all the methodological and scientific recommendations were
respected. “The system was changed in order to eliminate the History of
Romanians. The textbooks compiled were criticized harshly. The system
was not replaced when the power changed. We propose studying two courses
- the History of Romanians, and Universal History,” said the historian.
It was also suggested instituting an obligatory exam in the history of
Romanians for ninth graders and Baccalaureate exams in the history of
Romanians and universal history for twelfth graders, and determining the
optimal number of history classes.
The Association of Historians said that the History of Romanians
textbooks should be translated into the teaching languages of the
schools for other-language speakers so as to facilitate the learning
process.
Gheorghe Negru also said that the administration committee of the
Association of Historians will issue a statement to make public its
position on this subject the next days.
