Association of Historians from Moldova elects new chairman
General Assembly of the Association of Historians from Moldova, (AIM) elected on Saturday a new chairman – Gheorghe Paladi, who was until now performing the function of deputy-chairman of the organization.
Anatol Petrenuc, former chairman of AIM declared that he can no longer perform this duty because of incompatibility. Petencu is also the chairman of the initiative group for the creation of the social-political Movement European Action. In this respect, he declared that in the situation of Moldova the problem of history is not academic but political and in light of this situation he chose this way to protect history.
3 candidates were proposed for the position of AIM chairman, but Paladi was elected with the majority of votes. Petrencu, together with other 18 historians was elected as member of the Leadership Committee.
Gheorgh Paladi is Doctor of History, university reader at the State University of Moldova.
AIM was created in 1989. Until now it was headed by 4 chairmen – Alexandru Mosanu, Pavel Parasca, Ion Turcanu and Anatol Petencu. The last one leaded the Association during 8 years. The General Assembly of AIM is organized every 2 years.
