Association Agreement will give impetus to country’s modernization, official

The implementation of the Association Agreement will give an impetus to the process of modernizing Moldova by implementing the development model built by the European Union, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Natalia Gherman said in an informal meeting of foreign affairs ministers of the EaP member states held in Yerevan, IPN reports.

The Moldovan minister spoke about the progress made in fulfilling the commitments made to the EU, including the presentation of information about the steps taken by Moldova to finish the implementation of the second stage of the Visa Liberalization Plan to the European Commission. In the meeting, there were discussed the preparations for the Vilnius EaP Summit, including in the context of the measures taken by the partner states to fulfill the commitments made in their bilateral relations with the EU.

Natalia Gherman referred to the voice of civil society in achieving the priorities of the Eastern Partnership and reiterated the importance of the recommendations for the Vilnius Summit of the EaP Civil Society Forum that will take place in Chisinau on October 4-5.

Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Štefan Füle said that as regards Moldova, the initialing of the Association Agreement with the EU remains one of the common objectives and his personal commitment. “In Vilnius, we hope to hear good news about the advancing of the process of liberalizing the visa regime for Moldova,” he stated.
