Association Agreement is profitable both for Moldova and for EU, PACE President

The Association Agreement with the European Union is profitable both for Moldova and for the EU, and is also extremely important to all the countries of the region, said the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Jean-Claude Mignon, who is on a working visit to Moldova, IPN reports.

“European Commissioner Stefan Fule did a lot for this agreement to be signed in Vilnius. The European Commission and the Parliamentary Assembly fully support this approach. We, those from the Council of Europe, hope that a very quick solution will be found to the liberalization of the visa regime. The signing of this agreement has been longed for by Moldova and can represent a test of the trust put by the EU in your country,” Jean-Claude Mignon said in a press briefing.

The PACE President underlined that Moldova fulfills the commitments made to the Council of Europe in 1995 and reiterated the assistance provided to Chisinau in settling the Transnistrian dispute.

“For us, Moldova is a sovereign, indivisible and integral state and the contribution that the Council of Europe can make to resolving this conflict is very important. The Council of Europe counts a lot on this problem being solved. During the visit I will pay to the Transnistrian region, I will reiterate, for the third time, the proposal to establish cooperation between the region’s Supreme Soviet and Moldova’s Parliament,” stated the official.

PACE President Jean-Claude Mignon is visiting Moldova for the third time.
