Aspirant for mayor Sergiu Tofilat designs fallbacks

Activist Sergiu Tofilat, who announced his intention to run for the mayoralty of Chisinau, is considering fallbacks if he does not manage to collect the necessary 10,000 signatures in his support for being registered as an independent candidate. The aspirant developed the issue in the talk show “Politics” on TV8 channel, IPN reports.

Sergiu Tofilat said one of the fallbacks is running as the representative of a political party as the legislation exempts parties from the obligation to present the 10,000 signatures in support. He will accept such a solution, but the partner party should have a non-discredited political image. He already started discussions with particular players.

The activist noted he anticipates the possibility that he will not be registered as a candidate for the post of mayor of Chisinau. “I see nothing unordinary in this. By my participation in the debates until the deadline for registration, I can influence the discussion of problems. I will also gain experience for the local ordinary elections that will take place in a year,” stated Sergiu Tofilat, adding he intends to run in the current elections in order to gather experts from different fields around him and to build a good team for next year’s mayoral and councilor elections in Chisinau.

Sergiu Tofilat said he will not run in this year’s parliamentary elections.
