Vehicle traffic on Gheorghe Asachi Street in Chisinau has been resumed, but roadworks are expected to continue for at least one more week, two weeks the most, Chisinau authorities said. According to the head of the municipal transport department, Veaceslav Tarna, asphalting was completed last week, while work on pavements and parking lots is in progress. Tarna told a City Hall meeting on Monday that although the work began later than scheduled because of the bad weather, the asphalting was done on time. 9,000 square meters of road were covered with asphalt. “The rest of the work will be done without hampering the traffic on this street”, the city's transport chief assured. According to him, expenditures for repairing Asachi Street amount to an estimated 6 million lei, but extra work on arranging parking lots could add to the figure. A special commission composed of functionaries from different municipal agencies, including Edilitate, Exdrupo and traffic police, will verify the quality of the performed repair. Municipal authorities said Gheorghe Asachi would be the only street in Chisinau to get entirely repaired this year. Asphalting was done during June 20-22.
