As long as there is Chisinau, there will be a Central Market, Mayor Chirtoaca

“The Central Market hasn’t closed and won’t close. As long as there is Chisinau, there will be the Central Market”, declared Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca. Thus, at sellers and customers’ request, he cleared the doubts over Market’s future. The statement was made on Sunday, March 13, when the Mayor visited the Central Market. His position became official after the City Hall session on Monday. People were worried by the Market reconstruction plans, announced by the Municipality, Info-Prim Neo reports. Ion Stratulat, manager of the Central Market, claims several traders were told that the Market would be closed after the City Hall approved the reconstruction project. “Somebody spread rumors that the Market would be shut down. During the reconstruction, it will operate as usually, and sellers from areas where works will be done, will be moved to other places”, said Ion Stratulat. The Mayor asked City departments to develop an information campaign so that both traders and customers learned about the reconstruction plan and any speculation was dismissed. According to the plan, until 2025, underground and multilevel parking, modern specialized halls, 3-floor commercial centers on Tighina and Armeneasca Streets should be built. The Central Bus Station will be moved and multilevel parking with 1400 places will be raised instead. Two internal passages along Bulgara Street will be built under the multilevel construction on Stefan cel Mare Avenue. An underground parking with 5 levels will have 850 places. About 30,000 to 40,000 people go to the Central Market each day.
