The Moldovan voters, especially those from the northern and southern districts, plead for the Eastern course because they are not informed and because they are disappointed in the pro-European forces, Tudor Cojocariu, coordinator of the campaign “I Vote Pro-Europeans!”, said when presenting the results of the campaign in a news conference at IPN.
“There are great information gaps in the northern and southern districts and this is a serious problem. As long as the people are informed correctly, they cannot choose the Eastern course. We explained to the people that if they choose the Customs Union, which does not even exist, they lose the European Union. If they choose the European Union, they do not lose the Customs Union and can benefit from both of them,” stated Tudor Cojocariu.
The campaign “I Vote Pro-Europeans!” was aimed mainly at the undecided voters and the disappointed supporters of the European course. “We wanted to stimulate them, to urge them to be patient and to offer the pro-European parties one more chance as things developed gradually in Romania, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Poland and other states from the former Socialist bloc or even from the USSR, as the three Baltic states. It’s true that we move on with difficulty, but we must be patient,” stated the activist.
“The people have expectations of the politicians as regards transparency and morality. The cases of corruption affect them a lot and the cases that happened in Romania impressed them greatly. Many of them didn’t know that hundreds of public servants were arrested, that the richest five persons from Romania were arrested and are still in jail. They didn’t know that a Premier stayed in jail for several months. Fortunately, Romania chose a clear path against corruption and results only started to be achieved. But this happened more than 10 years after the signing of the Association Agreement. So, we must be patient and wait for at least 5-10 years.”
The civic campaign “I Vote Pro-Europeans!” forms part of the program “EU comes to your home!”. It was carried out by the Association “European Convergences” and the Cultural Association “Pro Basarabia si Bucovina” in the period between October 17 and November 28.
