Communist MP Artur Reshetnikov was voted in as Deputy Head of Parliament by the Democrat and Communist lawmakers. He was fielded by the Communist group and was elected by the votes of 54 MPs. ”I thank you for your confidence. I thank my colleagues from the Communist Party. It is a great responsibility, but I hope that we will manage to make the legislature a body working for the people’s benefit,” said Artur Reshetnikov. Liberal MP Valeriu Saharneanu said the Liberal group did not vote because Artur Reshetnikov had been reportedly involved in the April 7, 2009 coup, when he headed the Security and Information Service. The legislative body has one more Deputy Speaker - Liliana Palihovich, of the Liberal-Democratic Party, and a First Deputy Speaker – Vlad Plahotniuc, of the Democratic Party.
