More than 150 works made by plastic artists from 27 states were displayed at the National Museum of Arts of Moldova as part of the sixth International Biennial of Painting in Chisinau. The exhibition can be visited until June 23, IPN reports.
In the opening of the event, National Museum of Arts director Tudor Zbârnea said the International Biennial of Painting became a platform for intercultural dialogue. By supporting the mobility of artists, they try to ensure broader synchronization of local artists with the international esthetic tendencies. Artists from Sweden, Tunisia, Ecuador, and Georgia take part in this year’s edition for the first time. A conference will be held to debate the current tendencies in painting and everything they do now in arts.
Minister of Education, Culture and Research Monica Babuc said that owing to the valuable plastic artists of Moldova and to the substantial international presence at this exceptional cultural event, the biennial could be staged in Chisinau this year as well. Culture cannot be marginal or provincial and today’s event confirms this. “I’m proud of the works of the Moldovan painters. The biennial improves by content, concept and objectives from edition to edition,” stated the official.
Dumitru Bolboceanu, president of the Union of Plastic Artists, said at the first edition of the biennial in 2009, it was hard to believe that such an event could be organized in Moldova. This year’s edition is the best of all and brings together many valued artists. “I hope the plastic arts in the Republic of Moldova, through the agency of this project, will be recognized in Europe and the world. This project is the best messenger of the Republic of Moldova, which shows that nice things happen here too,” noted Dumitru Bolboceanu.
The International Biennial of Painting is organized by the National Museum of Arts, the Union of Plastic Artists and the Art Center “Amprente”. Seven awards were handed over at this year’s event. Four went to Romania and by one to Italy, Austria and Moldova.
