Art therapy for Balti families raising children with mental disabilities
Families with children with mental disabilities living in the municipality of Balti will be able to take part in a series of training and consultancy activities within a project launched by “Somato” Association, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“Within the project, we will promote creative methods as regards communication and harmonization of the relations between parents and children with disabilities, including by organizing art therapy meetings. We will stage a four-day summer school for 75 parents and children and, at the end of the project, will publish the “Parent’s Journal. Successes of My Child”, where we will describe the results achieved by the children involved in the project,” said project coordinator Cornelia Yakubovski.
There will be made a documentary about the experience of such parents. A forum will be created on the Association’s website www.somato.md, by which the parents will be able to discuss different problems with specialists. The Association will also issue six brochures on the attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, autism, the Down syndrome, mental retardation, infantile cerebral paralysis, and schizophrenia.
The project “Let’s learn to hope together” started on May 1 and will last for ten months, until February 28, 2013. It is supported financially by the Embassy of Finland based in Bucharest. The Balti-based Association “Somato” has worked in the mental health sector for over 13 years.
