Members of the European Parliament will watch the movie Arrivederci produced by the Moldovan director Valeriu Jereghi. The movie will be shown at the European Parliament on January 26, Info-Prim Neo reports. “It is for the first time in the history of the European Parliament that the producers of a feature film are invited to a screening and discussion in this institution. I consider that this invitation means more than participation in film festivals that can be influenced by political or economic factors. It is an honor for our team and country to show Arrivederci for the MEPs,” director Valeriu Jereghi said. According to the program, in Brussels Valeriu Jereghi will make a presentation on the movie in front of the MEPs. Then the film will be screened. During the next days, the crew will attend the meetings of a European Parliament commission. The visit to the European Parliament is the first leg of a European tour during which the movie will be shown in Brussels, Paris, Madrid, Lisbon and Roma, including for numerous Moldovans living there. Afterward, the movie will be screened in a number of Moldovan towns. The full-length Arrivederci is a true story about the drama of two children whose mother works abroad. The two kids live in a village in central Moldova. “When they speak about the migration of the Moldovans abroad, they underline the economic aspects of the phenomenon, but not the drama of the children whose parents left them with the grandparents, neighbors, relatives or even alone. The fact that we were the first to raise this issue in a feature film drew the European Parliament’s attention,” Valeriu Jereghi said. He also said that the film is a creation based on his 60 years of age. According to him, the positive aspect of the work is the optimism that it gives out as regards the prospects of the families and future generations of this country that experience now indescribable dramas and tragedies. The life of the two Moldovan children aged 5 and 7 is described through the eyes of an Italian that came to their village by chance. “We can say that this way Europe tries to understand what is happening in Moldova and with Moldova,” Valeriu Jereghi said. Arrivederci appeared because it had to appear, said author of the script Ana Barduc. “It is a very acute social problem. We invested our souls and all our sincerity in this movie. “These children are our tragedy. They are the tragedy of our nation. Ion, the small protagonist of our movie, represents the 100,000 children that live without one or both of the parents,” editor of the movie Galina Lungu added, quoting statistical data. The movie was produced at Prim-Plan Studio by director and operator Valeriu Jereghi and his team composed of: Andrei Mudrea (scenography), who also played a part in the movie, Andrei Baluta (montage), Mihai Danila (film director), Oleg Grinko (assistant director) and Olga Pudnev (artistic picture). The key roles were played by brother and sister Ion and Mihaela Babenco. Prim-Plan Studio thanks the European Parliament, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Moldova, the Women’s Association of Moldova, Air Moldova Airline and Moldova-Film Studio for the assistance offered in the presentation of the movie in Europe and in Moldova.
