A foreigner aged 35, who manages a public eatery in Chisinau, was arrested on charges of blackmail. The arrest was made with the involvement of officers of the Security and Information Service (SIS), IPN reports.

According to the Chisinau Police Division, the preliminary findings show the person blackmailed a co-national of his aged 63 from whom he asked US$3,500 for giving him back his identification papers that the first earlier appropriated. When searching the head office of the suspect’s firm, the police found copies of papers of a number of foreigners and suspect stamps.

The suspect was placed under arrests for 72 hours. He will be held at the remand center of the Chisinau Police Division. He faces five to seven years in jail for blackmail.
