The National Renaissance Alliance (ARN), a Romanian political party that announced its participation in this summer’s European Parliament elections, is committed to promoting the union of the Republic of Moldova and Romania through peaceful ways. “As soon as we enter the European Parliament, we will seek to do everything we can to facilitate the unification of these two territories inhabited by Romanians,” the party’s chairman Petre Costea told a press conference hosted by IPN.

According to Petre Costea, Bessarabia was detached from the Romanian historical space by force and by the actions in which the empires of that time were engaged. “We consider that the incorporation of Bessarabia into the Soviet Union was an act of aggression, an act that flagrantly violated international law, an act that, in fact, was not valid, was not valid under international law at that time,” stated Petre Costea.

ARN believes that the unification between Moldova and Romania must take place before Moldova joins the European Union. “Our party’s position is that Transnistria must rebecome an integral part of Bessarabia, of the Republic of Moldova. Russia must withdraw its troops from Transnistria as soon as possible,” said Petre Costea. He noted that the party will also promote Moldova’s accession to the North Atlantic Alliance.

The ARN chairman added that the party he leads wants Romania to be treated on the same footing as the rest of the EU countries, and that he does not agree with all the policies implemented in the EU. “We are most saddened, disappointed, by the fact that the European Parliament and the European Union promote many policies, especially at social level, which are not only unchristian, but also anti-values,” said Petre Costea. When it enters the Parliament of Europe, the ARN will tend to promote the moral, traditional-Christian values that lie beneath the European civilization.
