Armed Forces of Transnistria have 4-fold more small and light armament than those on the right side of Nistru
The armed forces of the unrecognized Moldovan Nistrean Republic have about 122.7 thousand unities of small and lights armament, compared with about 30.2 thousand unities owned by the legal forces of the Republic of Moldova is presented in the Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) report.
According to the study, in Moldova are about 290 thousand of these types of unities, of which 130 thousand – in Transnistria.
Officially 55 thousand arms of the aforementioned category are registered, in Moldova. The authors of the report show about 53 thousand illegally owned unities. There are 5 thousand weapons owned by civilians on the left side of the Nistru. The figure of those illegally owned is not known.
The forces of the Russian Federation staying on the left side of Nistru have, according to the report, about 2,3 thousand SALW.
The research was organized by the UK-based Safeworld in partnership with IPP, at the solicitation of Cliring Bureau for control in the field of SALW in South-Eastern Europe.
