Area of agricultural land rose in 2010

The area of agricultural land increased by 1,100 hectares last year. On January 1, 2011 the overall area of Moldova was 3,384.6 thousands hectares, including 2,498.28 thousands hectares of farming lands (73.8%), according to the Land Cadaster approved by the Government. Anatolie Ghilas, director general of the Land Relations and Cadaster Agency, said that some changes took place in the land categories in 2010. The forest fund increased by 700 hectares thanks to new forestation efforts and the water area by 500 hectares. On the other hand, the area of lands for the reserve fund of villages, towns and cities decreased by 3200 hectares. 23.1% of all lands are owned by the state, 21.3% are the public property of territorial-administrative units and 55.6% are private property.
