An online library with the archive of the Agency for Monument Inspection and Restoration (over 2,200 files) will be designed within the project “Digitization, research and new platforms for promoting the immovable cultural heritage”. The images and description of the files could be easily accessed by anyone through the search engines, IPN reports.
“These documents will be useful when restoring monuments and will represent a good platform for architects, history students or journalists and all those who are fond of the historical past of Chisinau,” project coordinator Victor Popovici stated in a news conference held to announce the launch of the project.
The photo exhibitions are the second component of the project. These will show places and destinies, such as pictures taken before and after World War II, and lost heritage with information about the reasons that led to the destruction of the immovable cultural heritage.
The research component of the project will consist in the provision of support to researchers, historians and journalists who look for information about the immovable heritage for their activity. “Underground Chisinau” is one of the subjects in this division.
The project “Commemorative Plaques” and the project “Last Address” also form part of the initiative to digitize the cultural heritage. The first commemorates the victims of Nazism, while the second the victims of Stalinism.
The last component of the project refers to the application “Chishiknow”, which will enable users to find historical monuments with a short description in Romanian, English and Russian.
The U.S. Embassy supports the project with US$20,000 and with technical equipment.
Agency for Monument Inspection and Restoration director Ion Stefanita said the Agency in the future aims to launch the project “Red Mill – a facility that unites us” and to create a National Restoration School in the perimeter of the Red Mill.
