Arcadie Barbarosie: Parties are businesses in which they invest and then make money

The political parties are actually businesses, not political organizations, and somebody invests in them and then makes money. The big problem resides namely in the parties as these control the institutions and decision-making, director of the Institute for Public Policy (IPP) Arcadie Barbarosie stated in the public debate “Re-forming of anticorruption system: necessities and realities. SCOs’ statement “Simulation of reformation of the justice and anticorruption system in Moldova”, which was staged by IPN in concert with Radio Moldova.

Barbarosie said the parties should first re-form and clean themselves, based on those healthy nucleuses, if these still exist. The institutions should be re-formed afterward and consecutive reforms are needed. For example, if only the National Anticorruption Center is reformed, this will become super professional and with upright persons, but the criminal cases from this Center can reach courts where there are yet discredited persons who take decisions based on narrow interests. In such a case, no progress is made.

The director of IPP noted that almost all the recent surveys show that the people no longer trust the current political class because no political will is shown, the reforms and corruption fighting are simulated and there is a struggle for control over the state institutions. Civil society is trying to show the political class that there is permanent monitoring and all the subtleties are obvious. Behind these subtleties, there is lack of political will or, on the contrary, there is political will to undermine the law and the population realizes this.

Arcadie Barbarosie stated that society should wake up, react and push the politicians towards a correct direction. The protests, which were mounted with delay, resulted in the creation of a new party, which can be an alternative for the people who want changes and wait for new political forces. This fact should encourage others, especially the young people, to build new long-awaited political forces. Going through the purgatory of elections is a solution and we should not be afraid of this exercise.

The public debate “Re-forming of anticorruption system: necessities and realities. SCOs’ statement “Simulation of reformation of the justice and anticorruption system in Moldova” is the 47th installment of the series of debates “Developing political culture by public debates” that are supported by the Hanns Seidel Foundation.
