“The April 7 events were a symbol of the wish for freedom. It is evident that the largest part of the Moldovan people want the country to form part of the European family and the young people showed this on April 7, 2009. The greatest regret is that the vandals and those who maltreated young people in police commissariats have not been yet punished,” said Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca. The statement was made in a concert held to commemorate the April 7, 2009 events and two remarkable personalities born on April 7 - Nicolae Costin, who was Mayor of Chisinau in 1990 – 1994, and composer Ion Aldea Teodorovici, Info-Prim Neo reports. “We must remember Nicolae Costin, the Aldea Teodorovici couple and the young people who struggled on April 7 and hope that justice will be done one day,” said Dorin Chirtoaca. He also said that the protests repeatedly announced by the Communist Party will never have the effect of the April 7 protests because those events represented the people’s voice, not propaganda by certain parties. The concert was organized by the Chisinau City Hall in cooperation with the General Division of Education, Youth and Sport and the Culture Division. Diplomas and prizes were awarded to students Lavinia Rusu, Maria Coropceanu, Diana Presanu, Marina Avram, and Felicia Dunau for excellently performing songs of Doina and Ion Aldea Teodorovici and other songs.
