Appointments according to political criteria – apple of discord between opposition and government

This is an attempt to name persons close to the Party of Action and Solidarity to posts with fabulous salaries, the parliamentary opposition said, with reference to the legislative proposal by which the heads of a number of institutions that are under parliamentary control are made accountable. According to representatives of the opposition, if the management of these institutions is defective, these entities should be better liquidated than replacing the current managers with persons obedient to PAS. For their part, representatives of the power said the current composition of the Central Election Commission is a model that the current government would like to apply at each institution, IPN reports.

The representatives of the oppositions said the law that enables the standing commissions to assess the activity of the institutions that are under parliamentary control and to later propose dismissing their managers is political revenge. The goal of this law is to enable the ruling party to promote persons close to the ruling party to posts with high salaries.

“If problems are faced in relation to these institutions, they should be better liquidated. The duties of these institutors, for example of NAER, can be transferred to the Ministry of Economy. By this law they aim to pave the way for promoting someone who remained outside the boat,” MP of the PCRM-PSRM Bloc Grigore Novac stated in the program “Moldova Live” on the public TV channel M1.

In reply, representatives of the power said the new law will enable Parliament to take attitude when the regulatory institutions act against the interests of citizens. PAS MP Olesea Stamate said the parliamentary majority wants all the institutions that are under parliamentary control to be created by the model of the current composition of CEC.

“I don’t think someone has objections to the people who were named CEC members. We selected them exclusively based on professionalism. Look at their CVs and you will see that all of them are competent in electoral matters and they either worked for CEC or for CICDE or are civil society experts, as the representative of Promo-Lex. Does someone suspect that these persons are somehow related? This is the model we aim to apply at the other institutions - upright professionals who come to bring things at these institutors in order,” said PAS MP Olesea Stamate.

The aforementioned law covers the managers of the following institutions that are under parliamentary control: the National Commission for Financial Markets, the Competition Council, the National Dispute Resolution Agency, the Audiovisual Council and the National Agency for Energy Regulation.
