The socially deprived families from the municipality of Chisinau can file applications for being paid 40% of the heat bill starting with Monday, October 29. The persons who benefited from compensations the previous season must renew the applications by the end of December, while those who want to benefit from compensations for the first time can submit applications until the end of the heating season, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a news conference on October 26, Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said the applications for compensations can be filed by families that earn less than 1,450 lei a month. The applications are lodged with the housing stock managers or the district head’s offices. The residents of suburban settlements can submit applications to the local mayor’s offices. The mayor said that this year the employees of the Social Assistance Division will compile social questionnaires for beneficiaries so as to make sure that the file data are accurate. According to him, the questionnaire is simpler than the one used by the Government to select recipients of social assistance. It includes information about the incomes, living conditions and number of members of the family. Thus, until spring the social assistants will go to the beneficiaries’ home and will fill out the questionnaires based on the answers of the applicants and the own observations. “We do not want to count their TV sets or fridges. We only want to make sure that the information from the application corresponds to that from the questionnaire so as to avoid being lied to,” stated Dorin Chirtoaca. He also said that if the persons declare incorrect data about the incomes and composition of the family, the applications will be rejected. The Chisinau City Hall has provided compensations for heat since 2008. According to the mayor, the number of beneficiaries has almost doubled over four years.
