The Chisinau Court of Appeals today upheld the custodial measure for a radiologist arrested recently in a case of corruption at the Mother&Child Hospital. As a result, the suspect will remain in the National Anticorruption Center’s remand facility for 30 days.
On Monday, the same court will decide on the preventive measure against the head of the Hospital’s imaging department, who was put for some reason under house arrest by a lower court. The prosecutors appealed, demanding a custodial measure. Two other physicians in the case, residents, are investigated without being detained.
The four are suspected of systematically taking money from patients for letting them queue-jump procedures such as CT scans. It is believed the department head raked in the gross of the money. On August 2, more than 1.5 million lei in cash was collected following searches on this case.
