Appeal against conviction of ex-MP Guma

The prosecution filed an appeal against the sentence passed by the Buiucani Court by which former lawmaker Valeriu Guma was put on probation for influence peddling and bribe taking and giving in Romania, IPN reports.

In a press release, the Prosecutor General’s Office says the appeal was submitted because the Court ignored the international legislation and erroneously implemented the provisions of the Penal Code and the Penal Procedure Code

On November 20, the Buiucani Court accepted the Moldovan Ministry of Justice’s request to recognize and put into practice in Moldova the sentence passed by the Bucharest Tribunal on November 3, 2011, which became definitive by the penal decision passed by the High Court of Cassation and Justice of Romania on April 17, 2013, by which Valeriu Guma was given four years’ imprisonment.

The Buiucani Court gave Valeriu Guma four years’ probation.

The prosecutors demanded that the part of the Court’s decision to suspend the implementation of the judgment by which Valeriu Guma was sentenced to four years in jail should be quashed and that the convict should be arrested in the courtroom.
