API wins case against “Moldova’s Post Office”

The Association of Independent Press (API) has won in ordinary court the case against the state-run company “Moldova’s Post Office”, which refused to provide information about the tender contests staged by it in 2014-2016, IPN reports.

In a press release, the API says that this April it asked the company to provide information about the firms that provided services to build, renovate, rehabilitate and modernize the post offices all over the country and about the sums invested in the renovation works at these offices in January 2014 – March 2016. “Moldova’s Post Office” denied access to the requested information, arguing that it is not a provider of public information, in accordance with the Law on Access to Information, and the given information represents commercial secret and contains personal data.

The Centru Court of Chisinau ruled in favor of the API, holding that “Moldova’s Post Office” violated the right of access to information. The court obliged the company to furnish the requested information.

The judgment can be appealed to the Chisinau Appeals Court within 30 days.
