Apartments for participants in Chernobyl cleanup

As many as 80 apartments will be provided to participants in the Chernobyl cleanup in a nine-story building situated on Alba Iulia St, whose construction will be finished in 2016. A sum of 9 million lei was allocated from the state budget this year for the construction of the block, IPN reports.

Tudor Ciobanas, division head at the Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Family, said the construction works, financed from the state budget, started in 2000, but were stopped for financial reasons.

The lists of persons who will receive apartments in this block will be compiled by the local authorities of Chisinau.

This year it is 28 years of the explosion of reactor No. 4 of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine. More that 600,000 people from different countries were mobilized to remove the effects of the disaster, including 3,500 Moldovans. Over 800 people died.
