A blast occurred on the last floor of a five-story apartment building situated on Florilor St in Chisinau in the morning of December 23. The General Inspectorate for Emergencies said the kitchen window and a wall were destroyed.

There were two persons in the apartment at that time. The man aged 82 and the 77-year-old woman suffered minor burns and refused admission to the hospital.

Contacted by IPN, General Inspectorate for Emergencies press officer Liliana Pușcașu said the cause of blast is not yet known. There is a gas heater in the apartment and no gas cylinder was found inside. A firefighting team ensured fire safety at the scene and is examining the apartment for danger of collapse.

Last October, a gas cylinder explosion in an apartment building in the same district of Chisinau resulted in five deaths and a number of apartments damaged. The victims included a child. The started criminal case was dismissed as the woman who owned the apartment where the blast occurred died.
