Apa-Canal Chisinau will have 50 GPS-equipped cars

50 of Apa-Canal Chisinau’s 175 cars are GPS-equipped. The municipal water provider is leader in this regard. According to a press release of ACC, the number is growing and in the future all its transport units will be equipped with GPS, Info-Prim Neo reports. Deputy technical director of production, Vitalie Midari, declared during the City Hall meeting on Monday, June 18, that the first cars had been equipped with GPS in 2008. Satellite surveillance of cars produced positive results. “Thanks to the implementation of GPS we reduced fuel consumption by 30% and drivers respect their routes. This is a very efficient tool for work management. Thanks to it, we can immediately fix failures. Our specialists can easily find out which transport unit is closer to the water leaking and workers get there in no time”, said Vitalie Midari. According to him, the cost for equipping 50 cars is about 200,000 lei. The monthly fee for this service is 150 lei per car. All the costs are supported by the company. The director of the Urban Bus Fleet Iacob Capcelea said that 35 of the 136 buses have GPS. Because of the lack of funds, the company can’t afford to equip the other buses. Meanwhile, at Termocom only 4 of 120 units have GPS, informed commercial director Mihai Arusoi. Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca requested that each municipal division and enterprise presented exact data about GPS-equipped vehicles at the next City Hall meeting.
