Apa-Canal Chisinau to deliver water for blessing to several churches on Baptism Day

Apa-Canal Chisinau (ACC) will deliver water free of charge to three churches on the feast of Baptism of Christ. Adrian Cecan, head of the ACC Central Delivery Division, told Info-Prim Neo that on Friday and Saturday, January 18 and 19, the water supplier will provide the churches with water in tanks, 6 tonnes each. Water will be delivered to the All Saints Church from the central cemetery situated on Armeneasca Street, “St. Gheorghe” Church on Trandafirilor Street, and “St. Teodora of Sihla” Church on Pushkin Street. According to Adrian Cecan, in such a way ACC is continuing a nearly decade-old tradition of supplying churches in Chisinau with water on the eve and on Baptism Day. Eastern Orthodox Christians celebrate each year on January 19 the Baptism of Lord Jesus Christ, and the next day they celebrate Saint John’s feast. The Baptism Day closes the cycle of winter holidays, opened with Saint Andrew’s Day, and is considered to be one of the most important Orthodox holidays, after Christmas and Easter. The Saint Liturgy of blessing water is held in all churches. Water is being blessed only on this holiday. In order to ensure the access of all believers to blessed water, containers are put in the yards of the churches. After the priest dips the cross and the basil in them the water becomes blessed. It is then used to sprinkle and thus bless houses, yards and gardens, animals, farms and orchards. It can also be taken by sick persons, as it is said that this water has magical powers, cures people, and protects them from evil, troubles and dangers.
